Chakras are centers of energy that help to regulate the movement of energy, in and out, throughout your field.
There are hundreds of chakras throughout your energy system and there are many different systems that explain them that utilize different numbers of main chakras.
The system that is most common in the west is the seven centered system. This system describes seven main chakras that are located centrally along the core of the body. The first being the root chakra at the area of the perineum and the seventh being at the top of the head in the area where a baby’s soft spot is located.
Chakras are shaped like funnels with the large end facing away from the body and the smaller end located in the center of the body. There is a front and back to each main chakra, meaning two funnels make up one chakra. One will open at the front of your body and the other at the back.
Chakras spin. They are made up of many different vortices, typically the higher number of chakra, the higher the number of vortices. Those individual vortices are themselves spinning centers. This means you can have a chakra spinning in different directions but also have an overall direction a singular chakra spins. There is no right or wrong way to have them spin, but the direction can be impactful upon your system.
One way to think of chakras is that they are like libraries containing lots of information. When a chakra is very open, you have access to a lot or all of that information, when they are more closed and focused, it’s like pinpointing access to information. While it is ideal to have clear chakras, it is not always ideal to have all of your chakras fully open all the time.
Each chakra has a theme associated with it and you may find different teachers but here are the basic ones that I work with:
1st Chakra – the Root (located at the perineum) relates to safety and security, issues of life and death, and all things physical.
2nd Chakra – the Sacral (located at the lower abdomen in front and the sacrum in the back) relates to creativity, emotions, and sexuality.
3rd Chakra – the Solar Plexus (located at the area of the diaphragm) relates to self esteem, confidence and a sense of belonging.
4th Chakra – the Heart (located in the center of the chest) is about relating to others as well as yourself and the god of your heart.
5th Chakra – the Throat (located in the center of the neck) refers to all things communication including how you communicate with others, spirit, and how you communicate with yourself.
6th Chakra – the Ajna or third eye (located in the center of the forehead) relates to clear seeing.
7th Chakra – the Crown (located at the top of the head) relates to spiritual connection.
Just like the aura, chakras can have damage. They can be bent out of shape, ripped, torn, or even missing. They can have sluggish, blocked energy, symbols, pictures and other forms of packets of energy. Having a symbol or picture located within a chakra does not necessarily mean it needs to be eradicated. There are ancient practices where symbols and even deities are installed within the chakras for an individual work with and or sometimes for protection.
Chakras can be worked with in meditation and through physical forms of movement, positioning and ritual. Gaining awareness of the chakras is one of the best steps forward to being able to work with and assist their ability to regulate energy in the field.
